My plan with my niche site was always to eventually rank in the top 10 in the search engines for my chosen keyword phrase, which gets on average a few hundred searches per day. In fact, I want the number 1 spot and won't stop until I get it I bought the domain in early August and have been busy doing everything the right way, and following all the great info and advice here. Here's a breakdown of our(myself and my wife run this site) progress so far:--Bought keyword rich domain name -Used WP and a very nice theme optimized for SEO and ads -Followed lots of onsite SEO guides and put it into practice -Posted content both on 'posts' and 'pages' -Made sure all products on the site look really attractive to the viewer -Posted articles on the top article sites with keyword anchor text -Utilized various backlink tools/services - Social Bot, Link Juicer and Angela & Paul's packets to steadily build backlinks -Blog commenting, Yahoo answers and other backlinks at high PR sites -Put an opt in form on the site and built a list From all of this, we've made sales, began to build a list and get traffic every day(mostly from EZA). I've been analyzing our competitors with various tools(such as SEO SpyGlass Software - Instantly Find Out How Your Competitors Got To 'Top Ten' In Google, Yahoo! and Bing Search Engines - not an affiliate link) and am now turning my attention towards the things I haven't done yet. These include:- -Posting videos at Youtube etc with a link back to the site -Posting content at the various Web 2.0 sites - Squidoo, Hubpages etc -Submitting our RSS feed to the various agreggators -Submitting the site to web directories This week, we jumped from number 420 on Google to 94, I'm wondering if this means we've now earned Google's trust. I plan on doing all the things I listed above in the coming days and weeks - for the last 2 I have purchased Big Mike's RSS Bot and Directory Bot. My question is, assuming everything is good in terms of onsite SEO, and with a lot of backlinks under our belt - will doing all those things guarantee us a top 10 spot? I don't expect it in days, or even weeks - it's always been a long term goal - in fact, I earmarked the end of this calendar year when we started the site. I see no reason why we can't do it - what do you think? (BTW, sorry I haven't revealed the niche or site, I will be doing so when we reach this goal ).

Hi Liam! This plan should get you some nice backlinks and traffic. If everything is done right, you should expect top 10 position eventually. It's hard to say when, even if I knew your keywords because there are lots of factors that effect the position of a website. Keep doing what you are doing and it will bring you the results you want. Web 2.0 marketing is hot right now, so creating content on these sites will get you some strong backlinks. Focus on these sites more then on submitting your web site to web directories. |

Hey Liam, I have to things for you: 1. Check this resource page. I think you'll like it :DoFollow: Increase Your Backlinks with DoFollow Sites 2. I hope you'll get to number one soon, but you have to keep in mind that you're not the only one optimising a site for that certain keyword or keyphrase. So in a way your're efforts depend a lot on your competion efforts in optimising their sites. Hope this helps, Andy |

My competition is pretty established, but I know I will displace them in time. There's literally thousands of Directories out there, and they all offer free one way links(if your submission is accepted) so I think they're pretty important for link juice | |
