Default Adding Meta Tags Mustve Changed For Google

Hey fellow warriors! I bought me a new blog recently and was trying to add my meta or html tag to verify it for my webmaster tools. Unfortunately it seemed liked they mustve changed the way you can do it recently. I use to be able to add the verification code in a page, then post it. It's not allowing me to verify it like that now.

Any help appreciated.-Wordpress blog by the way-

Jeff.

RAther than messing around with META tags in WordPress it may be easier to create an HTML file and naming it with the code they give you. So your file might look something like this:

googleverificationcodeasd3645452.html.

Then upload that file to the root directory of your blog.

Then select HTML file from the drop down menu in the verification screen

Then click 'Verify'

Cheers,

Martin.

I might be mistaken, but check the WP thread, one for all sticky.
I think in WP you dont use the meta tags anymore. When you use SEO for wordpress your tags go at the bottom. Also your title is your meta tag.
If your not using SEO for WP[the plugin},then your title becomes your meta tag.
I think.

hmm still not working. I took the download they gave me(which is like the code you mentioned above), sent it to the public_html of the website, but it's still not verifying it.

Meta tags are various bits of info that go into the HEAD section of your page. If it's the Analytics code itself, this needs to be pasted into the bottom of your HTML code, right before the closing BODY tag.

(The TITLE tag is a title tag...it's not a meta tag.)

If it's that bit of code you download to verify if the site address you submitted is really yours, then if I remember right, that does go into your root HTML directory.

Come to think of it, though...I don't remember doing it that way for my most recent sites. Either faulty memory, or they just need to see the regular Analytics code tucked into your HTML right before the end BODY tag.

If you just can't get it to work, maybe someone here can take a look under the hood for you. Otherwise, you'll have to go to Google for help.

Michael is correct with the root directory comment, all you need to do if you can't get the meta tag way to work for you is to create and html file with the code they give you, name it what webmaster tools tells you and upload it to your root directory.

you actually have to download their file now and then upload it. no more just renaming a html file. It's kind of a PITA.
