So many different theories on keyword density!!?

I keep hearing so many different threories on keyword density that I don't know what to believe anymore. What do people believe to be the current best way of doing it and why?

I guess the reason people find it difficult is because googles algorythem is a secret at the end of the day so in most cases its just personal opinion.

Some People also say that its not important at all. Im guessing this is because all you need is links with the approriate anchor text, then next most important would be a title with the keyword, then H1 H2 tags leaving poor keyword density at the bottom in terms of importance?

What I do is take the average from the top 5 sites. This way, just in case it does matter, I know I am fairly safe.

I do know too many repeated keywords can trigger as spam.

The title is the most important thing, and has been for a very long time.

Most density advice is inaccurate. Some high ranking pages/sites even have dynamic pages, where the density changes, but the ranking remains the same.

My advice is this: Have plenty of content about the keywords, and use them on a variety of different pages. On some pages, use the keywords very little, and others use them alot, and on others, in between.

Cover all the options...This gives you the most chances...Plus engines will change and there's more than one search engine, so there is really no point in following the same recipe in every page you make.

Hi int-mark,

My opinion is that you can safely ignore keyword density. In my experience I haven't seen evidence that it makes any difference. There are other factors that are really important and you should be focusing on those instead.

Keyword Density is not tricky, it is difficult and confusing. But, I have found some true steps that have helped some of my friends.
1. Keywords in the title of the page, between the head tags, and include key word tag. Tell the search engines what your key words are. Description tag, description of your page.
2. Keywords in your main heading or "h1"
3. keywords in your subheading or "h2"
4. Try to include at least 2 keywords in the paragraphs of you page (use paragraph tags).
5. Try to make the last word of your page a keyword.
6. Keyword appropriate content associated with your page.
and finally
7. Back links that are directly related to your keywords.

Try some of these tips. Oh, and 1 more read a lot of Brad Cullen material.

The best way to find keyword density and do all round SEO is to compare your website to the current top ten in Google. I use Internet Business Provider to do all of my SEO.
