I'm wondering what everyone's opinion is on displaying Google's ads on a website that you are trying to establish a more professional appearance with...does it detract from a professional appearance or not? In my opinion...I think it does. On the other hand, I've seen Google ads on various professional sites. |

I think it depends on the site and the type of ads your displaying, would a single adsense banner be a better option than text links? I would also recommend changing the adsense text format to match with your site layout. |

Like you noticed, adsense is present just about everywhere, even on staid newspaper, magazine and academic sites, so I think that people have already discounted them.

Well, these are some positive thoughts that I'm going to consider. I have Google's ads on some other sites and although it's not a huge amount, it is a nice extra bonus income.

Since online news sites and other content sites are providing the content free so they use adsense to cover some of the costs of providing free content, but with Murdoch considering going on the route of subscription based media and news sites, then this pattern may change in future, and adsense won't be the main source of income for such media sites.

It looks unprofessional especially if there's more adsense than article. Looks like you're broke and desperate. It also depends on how to actually place the adsense code around your site. Some websites you couldnt even tell adsense is there because it's so well placed and integrated into the site. |

I don't use adsense on my personal or business blogs. I have some other domains that are setup just for Adsense blogs. Domains are cheap, hosting is cheap, you can get a generic domain and setup subdomains with adsense blogs that run on news feeds for pure auto income. I suppose it is a matter of personal preference but personally I don't want my customers coming to my personal or business blogs and being taken away or distracted for $2.00 worth of ad revenue. If they are going to bounce from one of those sites I would prefer they get redirected to an ad where I am going to get a decent affiliate commission. |

I write copy. I'm on Linkedin if you're curious.
