Some SEO pros will tell you this is better because it looks more "natural" to Google. I'm not sure I buy that, but I do know from experience that inner page link building will help your homepage rank higher too. Seems the links to the inner pages also "bleed" some juice to the index page. So it's all good. Do it all. John |

It is ok to have some pages better rank than your index. Page rank is what we have been interested in, but I say that deep linking within the website or blog is more important. |
