Default Backlinks on High PR Sites - What Works?

Newbie question about backlinking here...

If I find a high PR site (main domain is PR 7) that allows me to create a profile for myself on the site and leave a do-follow backlink, will this backlink still count as a PR 7 backlink even though the profile page on which I leave the backlink shows up as PR N/A on SEO Quake?

Do I still get that PR 7 juice even though my link is on a profile page that shows up as PR N/A?

And will it work if I just ping the profile page? Or do I need to actually comment in a forum or on a post/article (thus risking website moderator action) in order for the backlink to count?

Thanks for any insights...

Hi julianyc,

No, you won't get any PR 7 link juice as it is "Page Rank" not "Site Rank". However, you'll still get some juice from the actual page. If the page is PR1 - then that's what you'll get.

As far as your other question; I don't know why all that would be necessary. Your link still does count. All things being equal - a link is a link. It's just that the link isn't coming from a high "PR" page.

If you wish to increase the link juice to your profile page, then try linking to it from other sites via article directories, bookmark directories, etc.

Hope this helps.

The advantage of a high PR homepage, even when the page your link is on doesn't have any PR, is that the search engine spiders camp out on higher PR sites. So your new profile page gets crawled a lot faster. HOWEVER, the profile needs to be accessible by the spider. You can find this out by logging out of your acct there after you set up the new profile with your link. Then navigate back to the forum's index page and look for a link to your profile. If you can get to it when you're logged out, that means the search engine spiders can too. If you are forced to log in to access your page, that's bad.

And yes, ping your profile URL. Takes no time and can only help it get picked up faster.

Thanks for the guidance. So it would seem the real value would be in posting your link on a high PR post/article page on the site, rather than just the profile page itself, which mostly seem to be PR NAs.
