I've hit the stage of complete frustration at the moment with one of my sites. It is two weeks old but it just seems that Google is dancing my site all over the 1st page! One minute i'm number 1, then 7, then 3, then 5! ahhhhhh! Will it ever just go number 1 and stay there? How long does it take to settle? Thanks, Si |

a few weeks ...but then it will start again if you start to do lots of backlinking. don't worry about it there is nothing you can do about it. |

Only two weeks old? I wouldn't worry about it. ![]() The dance usually takes ~3 weeks for me, on average. But a few times it's taken ~2 months. |

2 weeks is nothing! try 3-4 months for certain niches and keywords and possibly never.

You are under the false impression that once a site is #1 it will stay there. Your competition is not stopping. You must continue to build backlinks and other things. Staying at #1 is not a once- achieved-sit-back situation. On any given day, sites will scramble. Instead of calling it a google dance, we should call it a competitor dance, at which there are times we are wall-flowers. Paul |

The google dance will usually affect new sites, and it means that sites will keep moving about before eventually settling down to a particular page (and around a particular position; but it may move a bit) Of course, as you say, once the dance has stopped, you still need to get fresh backlinks otherwise you will start slipping down the SERPs again.

Your site is competiting with millions of other sites, so there are bound to be constant fluctuations. No one has the right to remain at No1, and just like you other website owners will be working hard on promoting their sites.

This should not discourage you. I suggest, be a little aggressive when your rankings are a bit low in Google but once you have achieved the top spot, slowly choose your backlinks and build slowly. just my 2 cents. |

I am building around 30 backlinks per day so i am trying to do everything slowly but any advice i take onboard. One question though. I am using SEO quake and it looks like there are individual blog pages ranking higher than my main money site. Those blogs have at least 500+ Yahoo LD and my main domain is only showing 5 Yahoo LD. Will those pages have a better advantage because of the backlinks pointing to the blog and is that why the page is ahead of mine? |

I personally would: - Not build too many links in the first few weeks (I would go for 1-3 a day MAX) - I would start with trusted sources FIRST (I always try to have my very first links come from trusted sources such as EzineArticles or another site you may have access to) - I would avoid ANY kind of predictable pattern (you know... 30 links every single day like clockwork ain't natural... Google can see that... in fact that's a pretty nice footprint there) - I would VARY my anchor texts I am linking with. Example? If the main keyword for a page on my site was "blue widget review" I would backlink to it using anchor texts like these... "blue widget review" "review of blue widget" "blue widget feedback" "click here for a blue widget review" "click here" You get the idea... That works great IMO :-) - I would build most links to my home-page. - I would ignore my exact ranking in the first few months... it really dances (especially for competitive niches) What matters is that you just get some consistent traffic, even if you are not on page 1. - I would not monetize my page (with AdSense or affiliate offers) in the first few weeks, until I get indexed... So... that's how I do it and it works fine, not always... but most of the time :-)

While you are building 1-3 backlinks a day, your competition is building hundreds. How soon do you want to earn money...today or a month from now? Since nobody can control how many people link to us....think about that. The faster you do everything, and the more you do it, the better. Paul |

I can see where you are coming from. I'm sure it takes a while for the links to be picked up so why push it? I really dont want to jeopardize my sites rankings.
