oh yeah ...i just read it. This proves that page rank is not an important factor. And we will not be surprised to see if google removes it from toolbar as well.

Talk about a way to confuse spammers. You won't be able to go blog shopping and know which sites are considered the better links. I'm sure they will still have a page rank evaluation, we just won't see it anymore. Smart move for google.

*Sigh* They never said "No more page rank".
They haven't stopped using it. They've simply removed it from the webmaster tools bit (and probably soon from the toolbar) They are still calculating it, and will still use it along with the other 200 factors that determine a site's position in the SERPs. ![]() People seemed to think that PR was the be-all-and-end-all. This isn't true. That is all Google have said, not that they are going to disband page rank. |

Guys (and gals)
Come on lets read better than this. You are just going to end up confusing yourself or newbies. the toolbar HAS NOTHING - ZERO to do with Google's algorythm. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. If it did these forums would have already been ablaze with sites that had dropped out of their rankings. Google has simply removed the pagerank reference in their toolbar because (they are saying) it over emphasizes one element of Search engine placement. It has ALWAYS been more than pagerank. Relevance Juice has been as important to Google as PR juice for years. |

Ain't happening Joseph. Theres no way that google is going to value a link from your site as much as a link from CNN or even a respectd article site. PR will never really go away. They might call it something else, tweak it or even hide that they are using it but Google will always have to look at the site that a link is coming from. If not then you will be out of business too (but it can't happen. Its imposible).

BINGO! I feel that way too..
When Google tries to hide something, that "thing" must be important to stop us from gaming their system. Allowing us to game its system will jeopardize its multi-billion income business.. Who will use Adwords then? PR value is so important in the SEO system. Every website must be given a reputation value. Whose recommendation is more authentic? A link from Obama's blog vs a 16 year old blog? Without including PR into SERP, I could easily game the system with thousands of "PR0 links" from my self-hosted blogs. This is why links from Angela's package is still working. |

I don't care for the page rank feature in the toolbar. My site has a PR of 10/10 but that silly toolbar always says PR:2 What's up with that ?

Even I wasn't concentrating more towards the Page Rank of a site. I however concentrated more towards the SERP rather than the Page Rank. Because that is what it counts at the end of the day.

AP sept 2011 - Google remove the search box from front page just leaving the "I feel lucky" button.
Mark Snips, apparently a Google-World-Com spokesperson, has stated that search has dwindled since the Introduction of "finger quotes" web free point ohh "finger quotes" and the update "We already know what you want so just sit back and get spoon fed info mass tracking semantic web" codename couch potato. Miss Snips, sporting a new day glow wig, stated that we (GWC) have been planning this for years gathering profile information and the signs showed during the Twitter fad of web users lack of enthusiasm for typ.......ing. -- Well might be a few years but search as it is now will eventually give way to multidimensional profiling and information push. A combination of personal filters and Google semantics. Take a holiday and think of all the other things, car/taxi hire, clothing, tickets rtc automatically being pushed by Google and your desktop PA filtering the data to your needs and rewriting according to your language and IQ. Take a look a google squared and imagine that in a few years time. Search is dead (eventually) |

Wow I got to tell you this thread is funny and frustrating at the same time. it really shows that people do more reacting than they do reading. Google removes a couple tools in their toolbar and no matter how much you tell people they still conclude that Google is doing away with pagerank. This despite the fact that nothing has changed in search results. There has been no major shift in rankings. PR is still there and CANNOT be completely removed. Some sites will ALWAYS have more value to Google than others (eg wikipedia, new sites, government and education sites). There will always be authority sites. A 7th grade journalism blog is not going to be ranked higher than CNN for news unless alot of other reputable sites link to it. PERIOD.
Google merely realized that by having the pagerank in their toolbar they were giving the impression that PR was all that mattered. its never been but its as important to day as it was yesterday. Whats the other important thing - Relevance. That also will never change. |

So in other word, I have a current web site that was penalized because I was offered $140 from a company to put a text link on one of my web sites. Well, after careful consideration (2 or 3 minutes), I too her up on the offer. After I put the link in my site, the page rank of THREE dropped down to zero.
I was then worried the site wasn't getting found and now find it in the search results as almost #1 on the page for the intended keywords I use....and it is still a PR0. So, here is my question: If I have a #5 PAGE RANKED site, should I go ahead and accept paid links on it? |

Not to mention, if you simply concentrate on putting up good content, you don't have to spend your time figuring out what Google, Yahoo or anyone else is doing. It's all going to change anyway, so why make yourself crazy trying to figure out the latest algorithm or whatever. Concentrate on your niche(es) and putting up good, useful stuff. The rest will take care of itself.

Page rank has nothing to do with keyword ranking.....besides soon enough google is going to charge everyone a flat rate to be on their site....they are in business, why do it for free ...right!!

It is a good thing to get rid of it anyway. Page Rank is not that important in the first place. People are so engrossed into the PageRank thing that they forgot that having relevant search results is more important.

Have to correct myself. Google has NOT removed the PR Tool from their Tool bar. They've merely removed it from the webmaster section. Using Google toolbar right now to Find High PR backlinks!.

Pagerank (whether it is going to exist or not) still plays a role for web sites who sell textlinks and using blogs to make money.

Did anyone actually read the article that this thread is about? Google did not say that they were doing away with the page rank, just that they were not going to display it in some metrics. People are too wrapped up with page rank, and Google understands that and is trying to give you a big hint that it is not as important as people seem to believe. Page rank is just one of 200 items they use in their calculation, and not even an important one at that. So quit being so focused on it.
The one time that it is important is when you are looking for back links. A link from a PR9 will be much better for your site than a PR0, obviously. But other than that, I wouldn't worry too much about the page rank. And don't worry about the people that sell link lists, they are not going out of business any time soon. |
