hey guys i initially joined this forum to help me find ways to market my t-shirt business, but having been on here, it was inspired me to want to create my own info product about how to start an online based t-shirt company, i'm going to launch it in a few months, but i was wanting to buy the domain name now so that it can start to 'age', the thing is i really don't know what keywords to target i was thinking maybe something like 'tshirt business' or 'starting a tshirt business' something along those lines anyways anyone who can help me with this i would really really appreciate it, for my existing site, the keyword was pretty obvious but im really confused about this one thanks in advance |

Seems to be a popular topic. Thinking that a domain means success. Why not try a test? Doing a search on google for tshirts yields the following in top ten: threadless.com cafepress.com tshirthell.com bustedtees.com customink.com t-shirts.com zazzle.com/tshirts 80stees.com americanapparel.net snorgtees.com Doing a search on google for t shirts yields the following: The very same results as above. Conclusion? Only 2 out of the top 10 use tshirt in their domain. Choose any domain you think is cool and work your butt off. What is the name of your business? BINGO! Websites are SEO'd, not words in domains. You can take any domain and rank for whatever keywords you wish. Paul |

Hi paul, thanks for your help, you're right but having the keywords in your domain is a massive help in your seo campaign, who can seem more relevant for the keyword "how to walk a dog" than howtowalkadog.com to google the other thing is the sites you mentioned are very popular in this niche, the majority of them are 6+ years old so are more well known and have been backlinking for a looong long time thanks for your help |

The way I look at it now...it doesn't matter whether your keywords are in the url or not as long as basic seo is performed. Quote:

Google's Keyword Tool shows the keyword 'tshirt' very competitive even though it gets about 2,240,000 a month. It's very important to look at the competition. A Google search shows the top five with page ranks of 8,7,6,6 and 6. That's going to be tough to compete with. 'tshirt business' is less competitive with PRs of 3,4,1,5 and 3 but only gets around 1,600 searches. I recommend some serious keyword research before deciding. The right long-tail keyword phrase in your domain could be very helpful. |

I have to agree that having your keywords in your domain is a HUGE help towards being indexed highly. My domains with the keywords flew to top of google right away while my others without keywords need a lot more help. I have a great name for you..will pm you! |
