A stupid SEO question. I have a site that is ranking in the number two spot on Google. I haven't made any changes to the site in several weeks. I'm kind of afraid to make changes or add anything because I'm afraid it will affect the ranking, but then I know that if I don't add new content it will become stale and Google may drop the ranking for that reason.

Ranking on the second spot is pretty good, but yes, SEO is a continuous process and it wouldn't hurt to continue to build backlinks to maintain your good ranking on Google.

If your content is good and not spamming then no need to afraid. Google always like changes on sites.
So you can make changes in your site but with maintain the quality guideline. So your ranking constant and you get better results. |

Though you rank well, you need to continue the process for the present results to remain. Else any other site undergoing optimization may beat you.
