Mixed results for back link checker tool

Why is it that I've been submitting 100s of links and they are not showing on my link checker tool. When I go directly to Google and type in link: www.mydomain.com it shows around 800 links but when I start to click on them to see who is linking it drops down to only 150 results. Also on Yahoo I'm only showing around 150 links but I've submitted 100's more than just the 150 they are showing. What's the real deal and way to find out an accurate link count from the various search engines?

None really. Probably the most accurate way is to keep a list of where your links are along with the date. Compare them with the Google cache date. If the cache is newer then most likely your link has been indexed.

This is where PR matters, Higher PR sites, not pages, are more likely to be indexed for changes quicker and more often then PR0`s.
