I have a retail website that is about 4 years old (PR4). I plan to sell it within a year, I prefer my online money makers (less effort!), but it will be worth a LOT more if I can get it higher in Google. Right now it is at #68 of about 2,090,000 results. However, this is a really competitive niche where there are big players with deep pockets who have been around twice as long as I have. And there are constantly jumping in newbies who are good at getting social bookmarking traffic spikes.
I am placing well for a lot of long tail keywords, even have quite a few number 1 spots for good phrases. But, for the main keyword I think my best strategy is going to be incoming links. I have a lot of links I have put out there already - articles, authority sites I write for, blogs, social bookmarking, directory submission services, forum signatures, all kinds of places. I actually have more backlinks than some of the top 10 sites, but I can't seem to out do them on SERPs. I just did some more tweaking to my home page to get my key word in better spots and I am slowly building more links. So, what are your best backlink strategies that won't risk getting all my hard work banned in Google? |
