Default SEO and Domain names

Does anybody know if you add a word in the domain name to the keyword phrase whether you still get the SEO advantage or not.

For example if the keyword phrase is Dog Training, but DogTraining.com is taken, so I register DogTrainingSite.com would I still get a big boost from Google because the keyword phrase is part of the domain?

Thanks in advance.

Palmer

Yup, you will get an advantage for sure, but its significance will depend on how competitive that keyphrase is. If the top-rankings sites you're competing against don't have many exact match anchors, you will do well. Otherwise your site might not even hit top 10.

I paid $5,000 for an exact match domain name in the hopes that it would insure a #1 position for the given keyphrase in Google. I placed a 2-page website on it and within 1 month I was ranking #8 without much linking. I'm sure with a bit of vigorous backlinking I can get it to #1.

So in short, yes, you get an advantage, but don't depend on that advantage alone to make you money. You still need to backlink.

Change it up! Pitch me a get-rich-slow scheme.

Yes it does help if your primary keyword is in the domain name.

Choosing a good domain name is very important to your website.

Keywords in domain names have very little importance in actual ranking calculations – that’s been the case for years now. The positive effects people see are a consequence of sites linking to the domain using the URL as anchor text – link text containing keywords is what helps the domain rank, not the actual appearance of the keyword in the domain name.

It would be an added advantage if you have a keyword rich domain name. Your website ranking would go up if link building is done properly.

Is the .net available?

From what ive learnt lately, if "dog training" is your keyphrase, then dogtraining.net would be better than dogtrainingpros.com

I must disagree. I have seen many times a keyword rich domain shoot up the serps before the site has even been completed much less link building began.
Even Lord Cutts of Google suggests getting a keyword rich domain.

I have also seen just be changing dynamic links to static links with keywords in the url and using a 301 redirect to have a major affect with SERPs.

I agree that non keyword domains can out perform keyword rich domains, but that comes from effort.
