Im very surprised... many people is saying PageRank is useless and will be discontinued by Google... but how?... if PageRank... that SEO elixir that shows the importance of a page (Backlinks and quality backlinks) will not be used anymore, I don't know, can anyone show us (newbies) where or when Google said that? I continue saying PageRank is the most powerfull weapon in SEO... please correct me! Thanks in advance. |

It happened last week or so, there were previous posts on here that had the links. What is important, at least in my mind, is to understand the difference between Google throwing out their formula for page rank and throwing out the variables. They may not use the page rank calculation anymore, but the variables that made up that calculation, primarily backlinks, authority and trust, have not gone away. Until they give us something else to go by, I would still use the page rank as an important indication. Maybe not because page rank is so important, but becuase the variables that go into the page rank calculation are still important. Google just plans on using those variables in a different way or a differenct calculation. |

Hi Ch3ckM4t33, PageRank is only a single factor among over 200 that are used to calculate the relevance and importance of a page listed in SERPs. It has been very insignificant for SERP rankings for quite some time. PageRank, for the most part, has been an ingenuous gimmick that sold the public on installing the Google Search Toolbar and helped propel Google into the big leagues in what was an already over-saturated search engine market. That was years ago and there have been a lot of statements that seemed to imply that Google would like to do away with this "gimmick", but the almost religious like zeal for this gimmick has made them reluctant to pull the trigger. If you have tried Google's new browser, "Chrome" you may have noticed there is no PageRank feature nor the ability to install one. They have already began the process of discouraging the use of PageRank as a meaningful metric and they nolonger promote the use of the Google toolbar, instead focusing on switching to the Chrome browser where no trace of PR is displayed. |

There is no relation between Pagerank and SERP so why should we care for PR.The most important thing is traffic.

Please read the link and the previous discussion on this. Google DID NOT REMOVE Pagerank as an important part of link building. It merely removed the PR tool from their tool bar. Authority sites and high PR sites linking to you is still important. Is SEO as simple as getting backlinks alone? No - but it never has been. GOogle has always stated that relevance matters as well. In short theres been no change except that Google is now hiding the PR more in their tools. Its not affecting ranking. As you can see Angela is still second (with her article on backlinks) to only wikipedia for the term backlinks backlinks - Google Search Theres been no major change in how Google ranks sites |
