How Easy?

How easy (or hard) might it be to get onto page 1 for a keyword which has 33k searches a month and 3 million competing sites, HOWEVER 2 or 3 of the sites on page 1 are only page rank 0?

That is sort of an open ended question. I believe it would depend on many different factors including, number of baklinks pointing to the other sites, PR of the sites, allintitle:keyword, allinanchor:keyword, domain age of the sites.

I would recommend that you get a hold of some sort of SERPS analyzing tool like Micro Niche Finder. This type of software will analyze the SERPS and give you an indicator if it easy or hard to rank for a keyword. Even then it's not an exact science but the software has worked pretty well for me so far.

My site is competing for much larger numbers but I'm on page one for a few terms and worst on more popular terms. I have around 27-230 million other sites I'm competing against though.

Try and get alot of backlinks to the page you want to rank higher. List it in special directories, make blog comments, even reciprocal links on similar sites and so forth....write articles about them and submit to EzineArticles, GoArticles etc.
