In fact, I've been stuck in a linkwheel for days now. If it wasn't for the food drops, I'd have starved to death by now. I am presently fashioning a catapult out of salad tongs, an old bicycle innertube, and a shoehorn. Should be able to finally escape this hell.

Who, Kevin?

No, he surely meant to be very serious. He meant literally what he wrote.

In the first half of the year we are supposed to work for the taxman. I think that's a mistake.
Help me to get rid of the taxman ASAP - thanks! (You, too, should make less mistakes!)

The idea is that they will wander around and around in your link wheel until they can't think of any way to escape except through the "buy" links you have sprinkled like breadcrumbs through their path. That and the brainwashing ought to have them whipping out the credit card in no time.

I'm disappointed in how all of you are so flippant about Jimmy506's question. He is obviously after an answer to his problem so be serious.

Getting trapped in a link wheel is a serious problem and google is likely to sandbox any website linked to a link wheel containing captured web surfers. The solution is to build an escape button into every one of your link wheels.

I use this in all my link wheels

I have been pushing that button. It doesn't work. If I get any dizzier, I will have to sue for compensation - as I'm sure I'll need a few weeks of recovery in a hammock in Bora Bora, with lots of medicinal beverages.

Haha! I didn't manage to find that STOP Button
Instead, try this Kevin ==> The BIG RED CROSS ON THE TOP OF YOUR BROWSER

It 's working well for me

Anyway, Linkwheel is good for SEO. It not really meant for real traffic in my opinion...

It depends on where all your links point out. There are some links that goes in the circles - but you can add some links to go out of the circle as well. But I'm not an expert on linkwheels :-) so it's not guaranteed the wheel will be that powerful then.

Thanks everyone !!!

Those were hilarious! ...I fell asleep shortly after posting though.
So, I couldn't respond!

I dreamed of being trapped in huge wheels in the sky. Universes inside Universes.

One of them looked like a giant insect demon with circular sub-demons inside it.

It was horrible... simply horrible!

Well - think you got the serious answer here. If a click-happy surfer arrives on your wheel they should in all likelihood hit a 'spoke' link sooner or later to arrive at you money site. Bit of a conundrum here however as advocates of linkwheels seem to say that it's best to have as much useful and original content in the 'rim' as possible (to make it look more legit). Thing is, if the rim is that good, where's the incentive to go to the money site?

To add a conclusion to my previous post: as their name suggests, linkwheels are more about getting links than efficiently directing traffic to your site.

Yes linkwheels are meant to boost the link-juice going to your website so you can rank better and rarely for getting the majority of your visitors from the various web 2.0 properties.

Thanks Pufferf1sh and 7_8_shortcuts !

That was really helpful...

Is there a white hat approach to this? Can I just link a 2 or 3 of my Web 2.0 properties together and then on to the main site?

Or is there any benefit to linking A to B to C to Main site?

Not a wheel, but something to build more authority?

Not sure exactly of exact performance of different linking nets, because there are so many possibilities, but this is what some people do successfully... They take their web 2.0 properties and build pretty extensive backlinks to them, instead of massively linkbuilding their actual money-site... at least not in the beginning when their site is new. This way they pass on link juice to their web 2.0 which in turn pass on their link juice to your money-site.

This is because allegedly Google doesn't mind seeing an already established web 2.0 site getting hundreds of new backlinks quickly, but it gets suspicious if your brand new site suddenly gets a bit too "popular" too quickly.

And building many backlinks to a web 2.0 site can be done relatively easy with things like mass article submission or some mass bookmarking tools, but as a contrast, I wouldn't use these tool on my main authority site! It's just not natural for a new site to receive so much attention so quickly, but... for an established web 2.0 property it is.

So, building more link juice to web 2.0 sites makes sense, no matter how you do it. You can experiment. No need to follow one exact plan. Just get some extra links from various places. In fact, the more random, the better :-)

Hope that helps

I appreciate you taking the time to explain it.

What's your preferred web 2.0 property for backlinking to?

I think the whole thing is mis-named.

Link wheel sounds so primitive.

Why not "marketing vortex" - to "suck your visitors in and spin them wildly until they use their credit card to be released"

One should use few of them in combination anyway. This is best. Besides results may vary of which web 2.0 property ranks better depending on your niche... It doesn't matter as long es they are pretty popular. Here's a short list I would consider:
