I have recently tried to target a keyword, lets just for example that it is:
Arrowhead water bottles I created the domain name www[dot]arrowhead-waterbottles.com My question is, will my chances to rank high be greater if I have a domain name: www[dot]arrowhead-water-bottles.org, or .net, or with www[dot]arowhead-waterbottles.com If this doesn't make sense I'll rephrase it. Thanks! |

Ryan,
Always try to target the keyword that draws the most visitors. The .com,.net, argument has been going on for years. Just make your site targetted and to the point and focus the content around the main keywords as well as other industry keywords as well. Now, if arowhead waterbottles gets a bunch of visitors, that may be viable as well. I'd personally try to stay away from a 2 hyphen domain name and just focus on what you have. |

I wouldn't focus too much on how your domain name is laid out. You're definitely going about it the right way but there are many factors in ranking and not just your domain name.
In fact, looking at it this way, if my domain name was supermarketer.com I could create a sub-site supermarketer.com/arrowhead-waterbottles.html and rank higher than a site promoting these keywords directly in the domain name. It really depends on how targeted your site is. Yes having the keywords in your domain name is always a plus, but how your site will rank is a whole other subject that would fill a book (or try searching for a few hints on this site). Hope this helps and well wishes!

I do believe that there is a plus in keywording your domain name towards your main keyword, otherwise Google wouldn't be making the keyword in the domain name bold when that specific word comes up on search.
