Default Advice on keywords pls

Hi guys,
Just a quick question about keywords and if i`m understanding them !

Say the term `red widget` has 1000 searchs per month according to my keyword tool making this the keyword i am going to create anchor text links with but.....

Is what i`m actually reading the results of all the searches with the keyword `red widget` in them ie...

red widget review 300 seaches per month
red widget sales 300 seaches per month
red widget tips 300 seaches per month
RED WIDGET 100 searches per month

So if i actually just targeted the keyword `red wigdet`and tryed to rank of that term the true amount of searches per month is in fact only 100 and not 1000 ?????

Am i right or wrong ???

Cheers Jim

I have recently started testing this in my web pages.

In your example you use 'red widgets" along with the words,

review
sales
tips

So my article or blog post will include all those words. Not next to or tied into red widgets but scattered throughout the text. Results are not in yet doing this but will keep you notified.

I supposed its because more people has been using red widgets sales, tips and reviews as keywords that they use to search it. Or... hmmm.. is your website already established? Because if its not, maybe the most of the people are searching for "sales" only and because that is one of your keywords they are able to get to your site and not "red widget" itself.

Hey Jim,

what often happens in reality is that you will get the majority of your traffic coming from any kinds of searches that you never even thought of before! Some statistics show that allegedly nearly 50% of all searches performed on the internet are UNIQUE queries, that have never been used before.

Why is that relevant to YOUR website?

Well, if a unique query is typed... Google will try to still match it to a relevant web page. Now if you have a site that is mostly targeting one exact keyword, then in the case of unique query, Google will not consider your site. But... on the other hand if you are targeting different keyowrds on different pages and have even related content that is not exactly targeting one term... Google might pick your site for display... So, try to incorporate many related keywords into your SEO efforts to get various traffic :-)
