I'm thinking about moving some websites from Godaddy to Hostgator, but I'm worried that it might effect their standings in the search engine. Will changing the hosting have an effect on search engine standings?

I have yet to transfer hosting for any of my sites, but from an SEO point of view, as long as your URL and domain name doesn't change, your SERPS will not be affected. And seeing as hosting doesn't affect that (if done right), you're good to go. |

Nope. Won't affect a thing. Google doesn't care what your IP address is.

Thanks for your replies. I wasn't sure. I know I'd heard before that having too many domains on the same IP could affect your quality score, but I wasn't sure about this one.

| Ya I would not recommend interlinking (w/o the NOFOLLOW attrib) a lot of sites that are hosted on the same IP address, they might think that you are trying to game them.

No it won't - BUT - leave the site up at the old hosting until the DNS has fully resolved to the site you've uploaded to the new host so you don't have down time.

Just make sure that if you have deep links you do 301 redirects if the url changes.
