What are the best resources to start learning SEO techniques?

My friend's father is starting up a new website. He's offered me a chance to work with the website if I learned how to maintain SEO for his site.

What would be the best resources I can use to learn SEO techniques? Please suggest some books, videos, etc.

I don't have any programming experience and very very very basic knowledge of HTML, so I need to start at an elementary level and work my way up from there.

Please let me know what route you think I should take.

Head over to seomoz.org and make sure you have lots of reading time available. This is a great beginning to learning as they do a great job. Then they have paid for products that I have heard good words about so you might want to buy them after getting through and understanding the free tutorials.

How about reading and researching right here on the warriorforum. Many times ebooks, articles, etc. are dated, here on the forum, you have people discussing everything SEO from the basics to the most cutting edge techniques.

Just spend some time here, do some research, ask good questions and you'll learn everything you need and save your money.

Try Youtube Videos, matt cutts blog, searcheginewatch.com, searchenginejournal etc and join forums and post you doubts whatever you have. This way you will sure learn about SEO.
