Post Backlink Main Page or Not?

I'm wondering if you guys backlink to your main page (for example yourdomain.com instead of yourdomain.com/blah) in your backlinking campaigns.

I've heard from some places that backlinking to your main site is dangerous but I've also heard from others that backlinking to your main page is powerful.

What has worked for you? Thanks in advance.

Thao Tran

don't focus only on a single URL or main domain in link exchange/link building campaign. Equally focus with other pages as well.

You need to get backlinks to all your pages really.
Iv found that backlinking to internal pages is a much better method than just to your index page. because most of your internal pages are usually linked to your index page anyway you still get the boost you are looking for and you can aim for a much wider range of keywords.

It is important to get the backlinks to your home page first and also it is totally depend on the keywords, as the keywords that you have to target and want them to rank for a particular page has to choose first for getting the backlinks.

Thanks!!

Here's a nice tip for you that I haven't shared here before.

What has worked for me (14 different niche sites) is to link about 75% of my backlinks to the main index page and the other 25% to secondary pages.

I believe that linking to your home page is not detrimental, but I also believe you will get better results by varying your anchor text, but always keeping the main keyword phrase in the anchor text.

i.e.:

Miniature Schnauzers
Miniature Schnauzers for Sale
Miniature Schnauzer Puppies
Top-Quality Miniature Schnauzers
Miniature Schnauzer Pictures and Videos

etc...

This will assure that your backlinks look natural and, from what I have found, it helps you to rank a lot higher for the " Big Daddy" keywords, which in this case would be, Miniature Schnauzers.

This has gottne me top rankings for some very powerful keyword phrases (at least traffic wise) such as STOP SMOKING, MINIATURE SCHNAUZERS, HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS, ARTICLE DIRECTORY, TAMPA FLORIDA, and more, all the while pulling in top rankings for all of the long tails.

The main thing for me is to take action and stay organized!

Allen

Thanks for your way of doing it. The way you explain it makes a lot of sense and does seem to simulate natural backlinking.

Those seem to be some killer keywords you're ranking for. I'll get there someday

All that counts is links to your website. The more the better, and do that at a pace that won't look spammy in the eyes of Google and you are safe
