Default yet another keyword-rich domain name question

I just can't seem to get clear on the value of keyword domain names - I'm pretty confused!

I have a site that's already indexed and has several pages placing well in the SERPs. I just came across a really good, strongly related keyword. I just checked and I can get that keyword in a .net.

My question is, would it be a real benefit to set up the related domain, or would I do just as well using that keyword for pages in my existing site? In other words, would shinypurplevintagewidgets.net stand a much better chance of doing well with Google than vintagewidgets.net/shiny-purple-widgets (page in my existing site)?

I could probably come up with four or five pages of content for the new keyword, but that would be pushing it pretty hard.

This is an adsense site, BTW, if that makes a difference.

All opinions gratefully sought!
