Arrow If I change the contents of a page, will it lose high ranking?

Some of the pages of my website are in page 1 of Google. If I change the contents of a page, will that page drop in ranking?

Hi ciewy,

If you change the content it may effect your rankings, it could go up or down depending on what changes you make. You shouldn't be afraid to change it to improve your rankings, if it doesn't work you can always change it back.

I recommend you make small changes and wait a while to see the effect. If you change too many things at once you wont know what worked and what didn't.

I think it depends on what change you made on that page. If you totally change the content, the answer can be 'yes'. It will drop your rank for that page. But, if you just do editing the articles, fixing the misspelling you may used there, and still use the same longtail keywords or something like that, I think your high rank page will still rank as high.

In short, as long as you keep similar content, I think it will be okay.

Hello Don,

Thank you for your reply.

What if I change the whole content 100%, with new content?
I outsourced the content writing for this website, but I don't like the quality of his work. I'm planning on changing the content of some of the pages, but I don't want to lose their high rankings.

Hi ciewy,

If you change all, or substantial amounts of your content, the search engines will likely treat it as a new page. That means the trustrank factors will be reset and will take time to return. Again, I you do things well you could end up with a higher ranking. It all depends on how well you optimized your content.

Ultimately, quality content that is well optimized will win out. What good is it to be ranked high if you page copy really sucks. It's just a matter of time before a competitor comes along with a better page and displaces yours. Why not be the one that replaces it?
