In the first 30 results there are no WordPress based sites: Should I go with WordPress or HTML?

I am looking to build a site in a niche. On Goggle's first results page, out of the first 30 competing sites, none are Wordpress based sites; all are straight html sites. This is a price comparison niche and most of the sites have a price comparison table on the home page.

I wanted to use WordPress as a platform but I see none of the others do so but these are older sites and Wordpress was not popular when they started so using WordPress may give me an edge. But it could be WordPress is not the best platform for this type of site.

What would you do: Wordpress or straight html?

I was looking into doing a price comparison site a few months ago, and decided the best way would be to use html and php. I couldn't see how I could get it to work using Wordpress or Joomla or any other packages.

Yes Mike, that's what I'm thinking, of course a html based site is going to be hassle to maintain.

A solution could be using Wordpress and setting up permanent home page with a comparison table. Or building a html site in the top level domain and installing a Wordpress blog in a sub-domain. Does anyone know, are there in any SEO advantages to doing this?

Wordpress and using a html doc can produce the exact same thing. All wordpress pages are just pure html. Just create a wordpress page and use that as your static home page if you don't want it to look like a blog...

Price comparison sites need to be database driven otherwise you'll be chasin' your tail! The sites you see as html front-end will have databases.

If you are looking at consumer goods (ie:not digi prods) then your need to grab the merchants product feeds because prices and products will change.
