I built a WP blog site recently and submitted to google under http://www when really WordPress will block the www so it is a non www site.
Many backlinks were built under the www and non www version (once it was realized). Google has indexed the site and it ranks well under www but it redirects to the non www http:// where should I be pointing my backlinks to?? www or non www?? |

To the end user, it won't matter. They arrive in the same place anyway.
To the search spiders..it might. This page will help explain & give solutions. Todd |

Thanks Todd, I read the article which was helpful but didn't really address this issue since both domain names will direct to my non www site.
The spiders is what I am concerned about here. I've heard it's bad to have your links through your www that is redirecting to you non www site BUT google has already indexed my www redirect version and that has already ranked well... If anyone can please help here I'd really appreciate it! |

I agree you should stick with one, and redirect 301 to another url, that way will ensure all link juice not wasted!

ANyways WP redirects www version to just http version. You should build links to the redirected version but it won't matter much as there is a redirect.
Also you have to set domain.com as the preferred one in the Webmastertools and Google will show them as domain.com in SERPs. Problem finished. |

Agreed, just do a redirect, this will ensure all the links go to one domain and are not split between both domains.

Alright, set non www preffered domain. www version has always done a redirect so it wouldn't utilize link juice as well if I backlinked there.
Hopefully google will recognize this soon and index Non www version. I appreciate all the support! |
