If any of you have experience with .Info domain names, what do you think of them? They are so cheap, it seems like it would be a great deal, but are they hard to do anything with? Do .Info domains even rank well? |

Yes, you can rank well with .info domains. A lot of people will tell you that google sees them as spam etc, but you can rank well with them. The downside of .infos is that if you want to sell the site later on a .com domain would probably sell for a higher price. A .com domain is also easier for most people to remember if you are looking to build a brand. And finally, .infos are only cheap the first year.

Yeah, the only disadvantage with a .info is the typed in traffic. They 'rank' as well as any other domain.

Also keep in mind that people will always check out a .com before anything else.

People who are using search engines won't discriminate between extensions, they probably don't even notice them. They are looking at the title and description of the page. If they think you can solve their problem then they will go to your site.

.com, .net and .org all rank much better. If you are looking at creating a site for the purpose of ranking it well in the serps then I would strongly recommend spending the extra 9 or 10 bucks. I just ran a test with over 15 .info domains for keywords that weren't particularly difficult and only 2 ending up ranking in the first 5. There's a reason why they are only 85 cents Hope this helps |

| I like .info domain because they are cheap and affordable. The only problem of .info domain is that it is hard to get higher page rank but I don't agree that they are not good in traffic. It only depends on how you handle and optimize your website.

.infos rank just as well as any other extension. There is no reason for Google to penalize purely because of it's extension and that it's "cheap". I have plenty of .infos ranking on the first page for heaps of very competitive keywords. Why would Google put so much weight on the extension as opposed to something more important like content or backlinks? And what would be the point of the .info extension being made by ICANN in the first place if it was just to be associated with spam? I think it's more of the fact that most people who use .info's a lot tend to be the same people who copy/paste hundreds of articles, not get ranked in Google and then blame it on the extension. Example of a site? (Not mine, I don't wanna expose my keywords) http://prchecker.info/ Page Rank - 7 Alexa Rank - 3274 Keyword "Pagerank" - #2 out of 205,000,000 (beating Google.com themselves which ranks #4) Keyword "Google Pagerank" - #2 out of 28,300,000 (once again, beating Google.com themselves) etc Sorry for the rant |

Until this has been done and a case study has been shown then you really don't have a leg to stand on. .info cops a beating because of perception, not because of facts. Personally, I can rank a .info as easy as any other domain using the same techniques so I am not worried if people think they rank worse. | |

I haven't had any trouble getting .info domains onto the first page of search results. They've worked fine for me.

From my experience what ever extension you use, all able to be rank well. But all human think .com first before others. So The best domain you must have 1st is .com then others. Don't let your favourite domain sold out. |

Yup .info domains can rank as well as others. But the problem is that if you buy an 1 $ .ifo from Godaddy and establish it, it will cost more than a com from next year. So, its not really a bargain. .nets are fine if coms are unavailable. .info are the options for short time profit sites.
