Default 1st Page of Google for 2 sites and I'm a Newbie!!!...

Thing is I don't know how in the hell I got there, and I don't know what to do to it to make some money!

The keyword is best guitar course and I'm No. 9 on Google without quotations and that's with a search of 16,700,00...With quotations I'm No. 7 in a search of 836,000. Oh, the site is bestguitarcourse (org).

It's very ugly, I know. I only put one article up and I didn't even add any plug-ins yet. I put up an ugly little theme, and it's up there for some reason. I'm definitely going to remodel the site, and make it look better, but what would you suggest so that I can actually make money!

I have another site called greenloverstore (com) that's No. 2 on Google in a search of 20,000,000 for the keyword green lover store...With quotations, I'm No. 1 but it's only 6 listings. For this site, I have the Wp-O-Matic plug-in bc I'm trying to get some backlinks right now.

I guess my question is, if you were me with these rankings, what would you do to start pulling in some money soon? Please don't say article marketing bc although I've submitted literally one with one in review, it takes forever to get approved.

Thanks in advance!!!

I would definitely have Google Adsense and Affiliate Products. I would definitely get deeper into it by actually getting involved with more keyword research.

Might be the 'Google Dance'. Track your rankings!

Anyhows, I recommend you:
1) Build a list with the 2 websites by offering users free advice, tips or a ebook if you have one
2) Not very familiar with this but you can try adsense

Those are the monetary things you can do. Of course, go fill the pages up with solid content first!

And if you feel its too difficult, you can try flipping them (provided their ranking still stays) for a quick buck. However, seeing as the sites are still rather plain, flipping it isn't gonna give you a lot of ROI either.

I didn't even think about Adsense for some reason. I always see the you won't make money with it crap and I feed into it, but it wouldn't hurt, so will do. Thanks, James!

Thanks, Jeff...Good idea...I have no idea how to track my rankings (LOL), but I'll do a little research and figure it out. Thanks again!

Hey Ashley,

No problem!

As for tracking your ranking, you can actually submit your website to Google Webmaster (if you have not done so) in which you can check its rankings against keywords (not very accurate imo, but it's still Google's own subsidary tool).

Also, you can simply check your ranking of the site manually by keying it in the search engine.

Alternatively, you can try checking out Rank Tracker - Track Your Search Engine Rankings Easily!

It's a rank checker tool of sorts. Haven't tried it, but it seems interesting. You can try the FREE version rather than the paid one.

Hello,

Before you go further, check the demand of those keywords first (if u haven't do it yet). Don't be very excited with the ranking unless you know the demands are big.

This is crucial so that you won't waste your time working on something that not many people looking for.

You can try free keyword tool by Google Adwords and check your keywords.

Its URL is https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

See how many searches/month for those keywords in Google database (it's just estimated figure).

From there, you should move on..

Cheers

Careful. Your luck may run out.

I've heard that Google gives a temporary boost to new sites, in order to get them exposed to the world... sort of a "Here, let me give you a boost" sort of thing.

If your visitors don't stay on your site very long, it may be a sign to Google that your site doesn't offer much value... and may knock you down off your spot.

My suggestion? Make a video... about 5 minutes long. Many visitors will stay and watch the video. In the video, promote an e-book pertaining to a guitar course... or how to find a guitar course, or something like that.

Start creating a list... NOW, while you still have some exposure. Say you are getting some good traffic for a month, and get 1000 names (for the sake of round numbers), you will always have that list... even if Google knocks you back down to page 20.

I don't know about the old adage of each person on your list being worth $1, but even if they were only worth $0.25 each... $250 isn't too bad.

Thanks James! I will start on all of that first thing in the morning! Plus, you've answered my list building question with your response. Am I naive to think that I can realistically make about $1500/mth if I do the promoting and monetizing that's suggested?

That is a start but you will need to keep building backlinks and posting content. If article marketing is not for you then you can build backlinks through social media by settings up profiles with social sites and start building friends in the community...

Ashley,

The reason why you are ranked so high is because you have the exact keyword in your domain (eg. bestguitarcourse.org) and the keyword is very easy to rank for.

You are not going to get much traffic from the serps for this phrase because it only gets 170 searches per month.

In other word, this is a poor search term and there's not much point in building a site if you are trying to get traffic from google...

Well if you are trying to generate traffic from google then yeah there is not much point. However from creating this site you have learnt some vital lessons.

1. Do keyword research : https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

(you probably want to find a term which gets over 2000 EXACT searches per month but with low competition eg. lower than 20,000 in " ". - finding this is the hardest part)

2. That its important to use your keyword in the domain

Hope this helps

Oh btw, you can pm me if you like after doing some keyword research and I can double check if its worth while to spend any time creating a site

Actually, Rory... I checked and "best guitar courses" (with the 's' at the end) only gets 170... but, "best guitar course" gets 480 per month.

But, still that's not a ton of traffic. About 16 searches per day. Not the best.

The question is... are you into guitars? Is it something that you enjoy? If so, you could still start a blog, maintain the blog and build up a loyal little following. If you are sincerely interested in guitars, my suggestion for doing a video and promoting an e-book or free report is still valid.

If, however, you are only doing it to make a buck... you may not have great luck with such a low search volume. Your goal should be finding a niche that receives 300+ searches per day (yes, every day)... and then do some on-site and off-site SEO, pull in some traffic and get noticed.

You'll only get a fraction of that estimated traffic, because not everyone is going to click on your site, even if you are at the very top of the SERPs, so aim for a high search volume.

Here's an example:

Again, for the sake of round numbers.... if you are getting over 100 visits per day on your site, and you are selling a product that earns you $25 and converts at 1%, you can expect to earn $25 every day.

Now, that may not seem like a lot to some, but it's about $750 per month... which is not a lot if you have a high cost of living, and not enough to retire on, but it's still a nice bit of coin (especially for an "automatic" income stream).

I am trying to learn to play the guitar, but I was only doing the site to try to earn money. That's funny that you said "yes, every day" because that's the first thing that popped into my mind when I read that. I will start again and try to get better on the keyword research, but those numbers that you proposed would be great (in my eyes) to start out with! I'm trying to soak everything in so I can get everything right next time. Thanks for the advice!

Actually "brchap" thats broad search. that doesn't mean anything. lol

Also bear in mind that if you are ranked 1st you will only get about 40-50% of those searches clicking your site.

Hi Ashley, although the term doesn't get a great deal of searches you can now apply all this to terms that do I know it's just a simple review site but I think it's a nice looking one, and I like your writing style too. I'm also a guitar player myself, although I don't pick them up as much these days cos of IM

Thanks Jitterbug. I'm going to keep at it!
