PR from backlinks or traffic and content?

I have been a seo for year, i have come to a question in my mind? How to get pr? Some one say that huge backlinks or high quality links from high pr sites, but i have seen some sites with high pr and with few links? Some one say it is up to the content and traffic to you sites, and it if from the value of your sites?
What do you think about that? Waiting for you replies.

PR is a great mystery to me. My most mature domain still has PR0. My newest domain is at PR2 and I haven't done doodly with it. Long neglected sites have worked their way up somehow. It's weird. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I think the most important think is have something to attract visits to your site. The ranking is important but not much as your content or services.

Yes, quality backlinks will help your site gain "trust" and link juice, pushing it up high in the shortest time...

You can build an authority site of PR4 in 4 months, but you need a lot of high PR links, and you need send links to Homepage as well as inner page.

Many people confuse about building authority site and article ranking... let me clarify a bit here.

When you want to rank an article, you don't necessary varies the keyword in your link, but if you are building an authority site, varying the keywords help you gain avoid problem...

Good content will always help your site gain natural links! More advanced SEO is to learn how to create link bait content, setup something Dan Thies called "Link Collector"... Your site and PR will grow naturally with just good content and link bait page!

It really is a mystery exactly why some sites get high PR while others don't.

Having a focused site with lots of high PR backlinks will definitely improve your odds of higher PR pages.

Well, getting a higher PR is not just matter of having good links but your site's over all quality like your content, user friendliness, SE friendliness, backlinks etc. Also PR is not so valuable so don't waste your time on that and focus on getting highr ranking on search engines.

I see a number of folks that mention quality however nobody is defining what they mean by quality. "One man's junk is another man's quality".

I define a quality backlink as a link placed where the users of that page will find the link leads to another page that contains relevant and useful content. If you mean something other than that, please specify.

You are spot on! PR is not qualitative, it is a quantitative value. It represents the relative number of direct or indirect links to a page, represented in a logarithmic scale of 0 to 10.

A page with just one backlink could have an enormous number of indirect links that pass through that single backlink. That's why you sometimes see pages with few backlinks and plenty of PR. If a million pages link to the same page and that page links to yours, then you have a million indirect links, which helps your PR score.

The strategy you mention is also called "Indirect SEO" and is when you leverage sites that rank well on Google.
You create content, optimize it with keywords...BUT you dont publish your content on your website, Instead, you find a site that ranks well on Google and have them publish it.
Then you get traffic by inserting a link that points back to your site on your content.

From my observation Google gives PR for traffic and partially from backlinks.
Adwords traffic counts as well!
Ranking of your site on SERP's is not related to PR though.

I ranked my zero traffic, 1-page, PR0, 5 months old domain on the first page of google above 60,000,000+ of competing pages for $10/click keyphrase.
Just via backlinks. So PR doesn't matter for ranking.

You may be confusing cause and effect. The same thing that creates PR, inbound links, also tends to create traffic. AdWords generates traffic which in turn generates organic backlinks, which creates PR and more traffic.

I have had good success with this approach. You have to have a site with useful content that folks will want to backlink to organically. Then run AdWords for a while and you will see your organic backlinks grow until you reach the point that you will have plenty of traffic from those backlinks as well as search traffic from the rankings increase that those backlink typically bring.

I often use this approach when I launch a content based website. My ad revenue offsets the advertising costs and once my organic traffic reaches a high enough level I begin tapering off the advertising until I see a positive ROI. Then I leave the advertising in place for up to a year to really establish the website.

I have found AdWords to be one of the most effective ways to prime the pump on really good content. Warning: don't try this if your content sucks, you won't earn many backlinks and it will take forever to reach breakeven.

Yes and no...

The yes part - I agree PR has not direct affect on your ranking of the keyword, backlink does. However,

The No part - If you have high PR on your site, you can rank high with many long tail keywords, even without any backlinks!

I do both, backlink for keyword ranking and also backlink for PR!

Do them both. A good content is a must when creating your site. Then do all the promotions techniques for your website to increase your traffic. And creating a quality link with your targeted keywords may lead to a good rankings in SE.
