I just made a google sniper site, and it was on page one in nine hours, listing 4! Then a day later, it's not indexing! And it's really weird too, if I type in my site name without "www" in front of it, it will show up listed...but only if I hit enter 4 times! And then it won't do it again! ??! I looked at google's terms and I don't think I violated anything. Is it possible this could happen since it's new, or do you think I've been penalized or sandboxed? If it's normal, is there anything i can do??? And what in the world is google caffeine??? Thanks guys!! I'd really appreciate any help...I spent a lot of $ and took 5 days off work trying to figure this out, and I really thought I had a good site going |

Absolutely standard. Keep on building backlinks. It is very normal for a new site to pop up front of Google, and then completely disappear for awhile. Folks in IM often refer to it as the "Google dance", although I absolutely hate that phrase (just sounds retarded to me). As for Google caffeine, Google has a new search algorithm which has not been officially released, but you can still test it out at Google. Quote:

Thank you so much! That makes me feel better. It's just so weird how it will show up, then not...within a matter of minutes. Like right now when I type www in front of it, it shows up....but then it won't again unless I clear my browser. I agree, Google dance sounds lame...but then again, it's fitting since it disappearing like that is pretty lame also!! And still not really sure what Caffeine is, but thanks anyways :P |

I'm new to web sites and I'm completely amazed at how wildly the search results from google can vary. I have a site that was ranking in the first 10 or 20 for a whole range of long tail keywords that were generating 30 or 40 uniques per day, and it just plummeted, and now those keywords are ranking between 100 and 200 and some have even dropped off. I gave that site a bunch of loving care today to see if I can get back into position. I had another site that just dropped off from position 2 on google, and I went and checked and it turned out that I had used a search-and-replace function to create anchor text and it had messed up, so there was no link and no anchor and a bunch of <<title="thisthat<a and so on. I fixed it up and within a week I was back in the top 5 on google and so far its stayed there. But no idea what's going on with that dance. |
