How many times should my keyword appear on my home page?

I try to seed post titles on my blog with my keywords, but then on my home page it ends up being listed maybe 10 times, due to Most Recent Comments etc re-listing the titles.
How many times is optimal?
Its been 4 months & my page still doesn't rank, except for a brief stint on page 2...

The long rule of thumb is to keep your targeted KW density at about 3%.

take a look at some top sites and run them through a search spider simulator and use that as a starting point.

My percentages are all over the place and I haven't seen any conclusive evidence for ideal keyword density.

I also don't think keyword density has a great impact on SE rankings.

nah, its not about density... google dont use density factors any more, ppl used to spam their sites and others with loads of keywords, so now it dont hold any weight...


what does is related keywords, proximity of keyword placement to another related phrase, and if or not there's a hyperlink close by to a related document.

good point, bad choice of words on my part.

I do use my keywords 'smartly' or 'naturally' - post title, once or twice in post content and sprinkled around in a few other places on the page. In some cases this has resulted with a single keyword being as high as 10% and two word phrases as high as 6% without negative results.

If you keep it natural and don't worry about it you should be find.
