* First, you may want to submit your site to hundreds of search engines. but i prefer you may submit your site to directories. Much better if you submit to a free directory site.

* Join to forums, you can create a signature for your site.

* Create Blog and use your keywords. You can also do blog commenting to a related site.

Onw thing you gotta understand, there is no best method. The only thing that matters, is what works best fo you. Just cause someone makes a killing in PPC, or SEO, doesn't mean it will work for you. You just have to TEST, TEST, and TEST some more till you find a winner.

I believe it is not possible with all the niche. But here I am giving an example. Suppose you have a website on Weight Loss niche. Now you can create a simple software that will tell how much weight is overweight based on height. Then submit that software to software directories and you will get both traffic + strong backlinks.

All automated tools are good for long tail keywords, they don't seems to work well with higher competition keyword...

You still need High Domain PR profile type links, try to subscribe Angela or Paul Backlinks, $5 / month and you get a whole lot values!

It depends on niche and keywords, most of the time my own link resources is enough to outrank them !
