Hey Guys, I have a client that has a site that is 8 years old. They've only changed servers one time. My Question: If I take them over to a new hosting company, and change their IP (they're currently on the same IP as like 1300 other sites) is this going to effect the 'domain age'? or will that stay intact so that I can promote heavy link building? Main Question: Does moving the domain to a different server/host/ip affect the domain age? |

this has been answered so many times on this forum, but it all really depends on the hosting company, any way, if its not broken, dont go fixing it.

It will not effect the domain age why would it? It's just an address change. BUT any change can have implications on SEO. Search for domains on the way back machine. I've changed hosts many times on the same sites I've owned over the past 10+ years and I have not taken a hit because of a new host. You can also change servers on the same host. The important thing is to really have your ducks in a row... you move your site fast and make sure you have everything ready so you minimize the crawl window when your site is down. |

Websites are ranked. Not domains. Not IPs. Similar to AskLoz...if you switch to an iffy host, well, good luck with that! Cheaper and no quick support will cost you ten fold. Paul |

Just ensure that your hosting provider is in the same country as your current otherwise Google may think you are targetting a different market. Be absolutely anal with your hosting company, I got sucked in when I got told by my hosting company (a very well known name) told me they host in the US/UK which was perfect for me but when I did a nameserver check they were hosted in India, you can imagine how I hit the roof!
