Default The complete SEO package

Hi all

I discovered this forum about 2 weeks ago and I didn't really know anything about IM.
Now a whole world has opened up and I think I'll take some carefull babysteps in this new experience.

Now the questions:
Is it possible to get your SEO efforts right the first time, and if so, where can I learn all I need to know?

Does anyone have any experience with .co.cc domains?
I'm not ready to purchase a domain yet and figured that's a nice free alternative to start testing IM.

I'm already very grateful for all the info that's provided in this forum, but I'm a bit lost and overwhelmed by it.

Thanks in advance
Jonathan

I know how you feel, I felt the same way when I first got started. The important thing to remember ia just to take in everything in moderation, and work your way up from there.

Is it possible to dominate SEO the first time around? Well anything is possible, but in all reality, chances are it won't happen. The reason why I say this, is because, you can only learn so much from ebooks and training courses. The real knowledge and general know-how comes from personal experience. That's when you can learn from your mistakes, and truly find out what works and what doesn't. Or as my favorite saying goes "Failing Forward"

One of the best places to learn the basics of SEO is right here in the forums, it's free, and you get advice from people who are actually in the trenches them selves every single day.

.co.cc domains, are very rarely used. I wouldn't waste your time with those. If you want to test the water's of IM then grab a .info domain. They only cost $1 for an entire year.

Technically possible but highly unlikely.
People will tell you you can learn all you need to by being on this forum and paying certain members here for their courses.

This is also a lie.

All of that content is available or free if you know how to look for it and where, and how to filter out the garbage. If you're paying people here, then you're paying them to act as that filter and aggregator, nothing more.

In terms of .CO.CC, I can tell you right here and now that they do not rank well as they are often abused by automated systems that are registering them for the purposes of having pump-n-dump sites.
Don't be a tightarse, and shell out the $7 it takes to get a real domain.
If you're aiming world wide, get a .COM, .NET or .ORG.
If you're looking for a localised variant for other traffic, i.e .CO.UK, you will pay more, but you will also rank better in search for those countries in both Google and Bing, as they do assign bonuses to ccTLDs to people searching within that geographic region.

Synthesize me, And reboot, I need to start again, I need to make it different

I would recommend that you either get a cheap .info domain with hosting or a free hosted blogger blog.

The trick to getting your SEO strategy right is just to start with what you know and build on it. I've had profitable sites up and that didn't implement some of the things I know today but they still worked out alright. You learn new things everyday and implement them as you can.

I would really REALLY suggest that you get yourself a .com name right away and a cheap hosting package.

Otherwise, if you become serious about Internet Marketing much of your initial effort will have been wasted.

If you use a free hosted blog you will effectively be promoting someone else's website and they can shut you down without warning and for no reason.

WordPress (free hosting) just doesn't allow you to promote products of ClickBank etc.

You can have a blogger blog but that's also a bit risky as you may never know when you wake up and see that your blog has been removed LOL.

As you asked for co.cc domains, I am also not certain about them but yes if .info domain is cheaper then why not go for it and one more thing you can go for a free web hosting for a start.

Try out 000webhost I use it and it's good for me, I have wordpress installed on it.

I can't help but wonder sometimes if some of the folks suggesting only ".com" domains are the same clowns who are buying up the .com domains and hijacking them just to resell them. Oughta be a law against it.

My newest site is a ".info" domain name, is only a few weeks old, and is already at the top of Page 2 in Google for my targeted keyword, against over 5 million search results, with almost no external links.

I do feel it's important to note that the main keyword I'm shooting for is in the domain name, though. I feel that does help a little.

Bottom line: I'd go for a ".com" with your keywords in it if possible, but if that domain's been bought and held hostage, I'd go with whatever extension I could where I could use my keywords in that domain. Again, not totally a game changer, but every little bit helps.

I'm one of those who suggested that the OP buy a .com domain. For the record, I do not buy up .com names to resell them. In fact I have never sold a .com name on the secondary market.

All else being equal, it is my experience that a .com domain name will outrank a .info domain name.

I'm so sick of people saying you have to buy a .com or else. Seriously, get over yourselves, you can rank a .info just as good as a .com. There is no offical rule that says .com overrides everything else.

I'm not really disagreeing with you (particularly as far as .info is concerned) but it is my experience, ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL, that a .com ranks more highly than some other suffixes, particuarly .biz.

It's really still a very controversial issue that which one is good .com or .info. I even don't have proper idea whether .com ranks high quickly than others!

I think that experience varies. However, personally, I now use a .com name when I can or sometimes a .co.uk for UK specific sites. I have recently done some work for a customer who is trying to get her .info domain name to outrank a long-existing .net name and it is proving an uphill struggle, but I believe that this is now principally due to the relative age of the domain names.

As far as speed of ranking is concerned, I don't think that it makes any difference.

Thanks all for sharing your knowledge, I guess I'll stay clear of those .co.cc domains then.
For the .com or .info domain, I'll just see what's available at what price, depending on the keywords.

For the seo part I'll just keep searching WF, too bad the search term "seo" is too short for WF's search engine...

Does anyone know some great basics threads about this?
