Default Buying diggs and stumbles

I joined a new forum today and I notice they have a bunch of people selling diggs an stumbles for next to nothing. like 5 for 30 diggs all from seperate IP#s .
Is this kind of thing worth anything for traffic or SERP?

yup, i say, but people doing that are going to ruin it for everyone, digg doesn't use nofollows and if it's really abused, google is going to weigh that site as useless. and will be more useless if digg implements the nofollow.

Spamming is never worth it, in my opinion. And that's what doing this type of thing 30 times is going to be.

A digg link can form the backbone of a solid promotion, and help greatly with rankings, but you won't get 30 times the benefit doing it 30 times.

More and more social media sites such as digg are building increasingly sophisticated anti-spam tools, to pick this type of behavior up. Not sure if they have the process nailed yet, but it will get there.

I mean you can submit the digg's with different IP's, but if they all link to a single page, or single domain, then that's still a pretty big footprint, and fairly easy to track.

Even if your a little smarter and submit different diggs to different sites that indirectly link to your money page, it's still relatively easy to track.

As askloz correctly points out with that type of abuse, Google will eventually reduce the link importance in much the same way they did with squidoo with the infamous Squidoo slap.

Cheers

The idea of buying yourself to the top of Digg is an old and outdated strategy that will most likely not work as you would hope.

People have been buying and selling diggs for ages!
If you use it sensibly and you just need a story boost why not???

Its not robots either its real people digging and stumbling
they got shut down once about a year ago but there

I do know Crystal, I'm not oblivious to what goes on the internet, I've been online for 9 years. But buying that kind of stuff doesn't mean it's a right thing to do, as i say, eventually it will ruin things for everyone.

Why would anyone buy diggs? If you build up a friends list, people will digg everything you shout, and then they'll shout their stuff to you. You can digg their stuff in return, or not and they probably won't check if you digged their submissions. There's no need to pay.

The method that I use involves adding lots of friends on Digg and then sending them a shout whenever you digg something. The key is for you to do the same for them otherwise they will not digg your stuff.

Well, there's a more practical reason for not buying diggs.

Social networks will eventually catch onto shady "vote sellers" (digg is especially strict) and ban the associated accounts. When the accounts are banned, you lose all the links.

A bit off topic, but essentially unethical (and some ethical) internet marketers started abusing squidoo's incredible power in google organic search results.

Back when it happened it was almost trivial to get to page 1 for a a keyword doing little more than putting up a squidoo lense with a little bit of content and the keyword.

Soon it got abused (in much the same was as digg is) and Google well slapped Squidoo, dramatically reducing the power of squidoo.

Suddenly squidoo lenses were falling out of the page rankings althogether, or appear much much lower than before.

It's getting back (almost) to the good old days now, and you even have dofollow back on squidoo lenses now which is nice, as that was removed for a long while.

For me, I'm still have great results with squidoo as a funnel to a money page, or as a money page itself (although the amount of crap they put on your page get's a bit much sometimes).

Long story short: People abusing squidoo by getting hundreds of lenses built with no real content purely to rank other sites better spoiled it for the rest of us.

Very similar I feel to what will happen with digg if this type of thing keeps up.

Cheers

Instead of buying diggs and stumbles, why not start a group here that agrees to digg and stumble each others stuff?

Hi All:

With social bookmarking sites, it's not really for the traffic, but for the links. Iif your article/page is good, those links can stay around for a long time.

One of my sites got to the top on Digg about 8 months ago and I think I got about 25 new links, most of which are still around. I never had much luck selling anything to these people who came from Digg, but the links keep my site in the top 10 on Google for a high traffic keyword (75K searches per month).

Regards,
Teddi
