is Google catching onto profile backlinking?

I hope not, butcan anyone explain this?

On Oct. 20th I built about 400 backlinks on profiles. They were scattered over about 100 profiles. I then compiled links to these profiles and published them in one page to lead google to it. I then RSSed and Socially Bookmarked that page to try and get google to see my profiles.

Last week I went on google and searched the username I had used. as it turns out, google found about 250 results, with about 70 profiles being indexed. Thats right, a bunch of my profiles were indeed indexed and showing in the SERPs.

Now here is the problem. When I check my website, BLW, and SEO4ffx say it only has 4 backlinks... 4 LOUSY BACKLINKS. seriously? it's been 20 days since I created them, and they aren't showing up and my site isn't moving.

Now, I know that none of these tools really show all the backlinks, but 4 out of 400 is also way off.

To make things even more confusing (to me) one backlink that is showing is sitting on a profile with other backlinks, and those other backlinks aren't showing.

This is tough, I spent a ton of time doing keyword research, competition research, profile creating, waiting a week and then posting the links (actually I wrote a macro for that, but writing the macro took a lot of time too) then doing all I could to get google to index the profiles and I see absolutely no signs of anything working. It's very disappointing, especially for a newb who tooks people's advice, and chose a business model, put his head down and got to work.

Any insight or ideas from you guys will be greatly apreciated, I'm not expecting my site to be ranking well already, but I was at least expecting the backlinks to start showing and see some movement.

Actually that is exactly what I want to hear. I mean, I've done a all the work (yet to do more). so it was either "it takes time" or "google is onto you"

They should start showing up but I have some myself that just refuse to play along so I don't have a better answer.

I'd just move on to doing some blog commenting or some other means of creating backlinks and see what happens.

I gave up putting a lot of extra effort into getting profiles indexed and just dumped a couple hundred links into an expressionengine/codeigniter.com profile.

Those two sites always seem to pop up really quick as backlinks so I'm using them to backlink my backlinks and help give SE spiders some direction.

Did it make any difference, I dunno.

How many does Yahoo Site Explorer Show?

Yahoo Site Explorer shows 5 inlinks. 2 are blog comments, 1 is a goarticle, and 2 are from the hundreds of profile links I created.

Why don't you track the keyword ranking of your content? I do that instead of checking backlinks, because Google don't show backlinks, and the closest you get is Yahoo Explorer...

Another way - Try Majestic SEO, they use their own spider to crawl the webs, but still not as accurate as Google itself, but Google don't show all links!

Google shows your backlinks with anchor text in Google Webmaster Tools.

Like I mentioned my site isn't moving at all. It's not even showing in SEObook's rank checker which apparently checks the top 500 results.

The current top result has about 300 backlinks but none of them have the keywords I'm targetting as anchor text. This tells me that for those specific keyword, I should be able to outrank it with even less backlinks than they have right? oh well, that will never happen if google keeps on ignoring my backlinks. I mean it has crawled them already. Also I created a goarticle and did the same backlinking on the same profiles for the same keywords, it has the same situation as the site except it's a goarticle, and it ranked as high as 27 and now has dropped to 58. and only 7 backlinks are showing.

Strange everything is working out for my site with profile links. I only care about rankings and almost weekly it's improving. I've only been at this for 3 months so keep on trucking.

Automating the work, or outsource it, that's how I do it

If you have limited experience on ranking, I urge you to try long tail keywords, those with extremely low competition, learn the basic of ranking your content, and slowly move to more competitive keyword.

I suggest this because you need to see result to build up your confidence!
