Default New website SEO success! (almost...)

I built a quick website with a simple Wordpress theme using Google Sniper methods - targeted a fairly small niche keyword and got to Google page 1 (#9) for my primary keyword (hooray!) with organic search.

I have not yet placed affiliate links until I can get higher on the page.

Problem - all that shows in the Google search result is the website address, but no content headline or copy. There it sits, bare and exposed with no other headline or copy to entice anyone to click for further info. Underneath it simply has the word Similar . It has been this way now for at least the 2 weeks it has been ranking on page 1.

I have posted 4 decent posts/articles with headlines and placed tags, and using 2 plug-ins (All in One SEO Pack and Google XML Sitemaps). I also pinged the site after each post.

1. Why is my organic search listing "bare"?
2. What can I do to change this?

It seems bizarre and makes me wonder what's wrong.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions!

Hey

I think it is not a major problem. I also have a similar situation.

I started a blog 10 days ago and it only has the URL in search. Nothing else. I guess its nothing to worry. Or at least thats what I hope.

If things still remain the same, maybe you can do some backlinking as suggested in the Google Sniper.

The best I have gotten so far was on page 1 position 6.

Thats weird I have never seen that before. Maybe do some anchor text linking within your content for your keywords. Place a description in your wordpress header.

Submit your site to google analytics and webmaster tool.

Also send your feeds in the form of www.yoursite.com/feed to feedburner (Owned by google) and also send your feed to feedagg.

Also what could have happened here is your site ranked when your content was not related to what you are searching for. Also if the niche wasn't too competitve so you ranked for the domain and also your title tags this could happen.

My advice is to rebuild your sitemap in wordpress and do the above. Google obviously just needs to update the info which can take anywhere between a few days.

Also ping your sitemap along with your blog. Yoursite.com/sitemap.xml

You need to have something in your meta description. Since you're using the all in one seo pack, you should see a box that you can edit when creating your posts that will be used for the description. Now is it a particular post that shows up in the search results, or it is the home page? If it is the home page, then you need to set the description for the home page. I forget exactly where to do this now, but it is in one of the wordpress settings.

If it is a post that shows up, another possible cause is that what google finds is not the post url but instead maybe a tag url. If it is a tag url, then you probably won't get your description that you had set, although I think it depends on how you set up all in one seo. You can add other tags though, and at least some of them would show in the description of the search results. That is how it is for at least one of my sites that show up in the search results not under the post url but under the tag url.

Try adding the META description tag correctly. You can remove this and Google will pick the best part of the page to use in the search results as the description.
