Default Exact match or Phrase match when using GAWT?

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but which search should I go for when looking for keywords?

Hi Bob,

When using the Google Keyword Tool, I go with the default broad match figures to determine how many searches there are for that keyword per month.

But to find out how much SEO competition there is, I will head on over to the Google search engine and do a phrase match search for the keyword.

In market samurai, they compare both.

Use phrase match / broad match and get PBR. Basically the higher the PBR, the better chances to have the traffic to your site.

I think it depends on your strategy for SEO, but if you're keyword sniping (i.e. targeting specific phrases with on-page optimisation and anchor text to that page), I would look at exact match, as broad/phrase match will often suggest that there are way more searches for your specific keyword than there actually are.
