Is it a viable option to use Squidoo/Hubpage/Blogspot or any free sites to use it as a landing page for adword campaign?

Or it is just a bad idea?

It's a bad idea, you are basically paying money to get traffic to some site that is not owned by you! and you are not building a brand/reputation from the site as well.

Just my 2 cent

You have much more control and flexibility with your own domain and landing page. You can control what you do and what your traffic does much easier.

I am a hardcore PPC guy and you will see much more success that way.

Squidoo and Hubpages can be used to link back to your blog, and these sites can earn you good revenue as well.I recommend setting up a landing page on your own domain name.

If you want to earn something than you will have to invest as well. Just invest mere $10.00 use wordpress and install relevant theme and get the professional reputation.
