Cross Post EZine and Blog

I've been doing a lot of reading about how to drive traffic to my blog and I see that many people are suggesting posting articles on sites such as Ezine.

My question is that if I have a great post with original content for an article on EZine, shouldn't I post that on my own blog instead?

I would think not to post the same article on eZine as well as my blog, as I'm assuming that I'd be competing against myself.

E.g. Is the goal of Ezine just to get listed there to get a link back to my site? I mean if I have such a good original article, why not "save it" for myself?
