Hi Not sure if this is right place to ask this question but here goes I have a competitor who's site is No.2 in Google search for a particular keyword, there are no back links and a 0 page rank. I am targeting the same keyword my page rank is 1 and the page has several back links, my site is always below my competitors in search results. There are 180,000 results for this search term Is there some sort of traffic generator the competitor might be using to get high rankings? I am relatively new to this so any advice would be appreciated |

Google doesn't show many of the backlinks to sites these days, but they are likely there. I'm guessing they're from social bookmarking and social networking sites, rss aggregators, etc. John (note: you should post these types of questions to the SEO board) |

Also they could be doing a better job at on page SEO than you are. Their page may be more targeted to the specific keyword than yours. While long term backlinks will provide a huge edge, short term on page SEO is extremely important.

Would have to see the site in question really to give an accurate analysis. Given what you have said, I can only think they have better On Page SEO as mentioned above. If you want to PM me your URL and the competitor plus the keyword phrase, i will have a quick look. |

| PR to begin with means nothing at all ... As for backlinks you have no idea how many backlinks a site has, only one that knows that is the person building the backlinks. There is no system that can track every backlinks.. This is impossible because a system would have to track billions of sites every second of every day, not even google can do that. Your competitor may have 10,000 backlinks and you not know it.. James |

Does your page have as relevant content as his? Does your page was created following the W3C rules? Is your page tabless?

I believe that your competitors backlinks hasnt showed up with your backlink checker yet. You will never know the exact backlink of any webpage. Just keep building and forget the competition.

This is good news, it means that Google is not using the same factors that they use to figure out PageRank as they do to figure out actual ranking. This benefits smaller publishers. It means they actually are trying to return the most relevant result based on the search query. And there are always links to pages whether you see them or not. There is no real benefit for Google to disclose their ranking formula or the number of links pointing to a site. Keep your focus on generating links on sites that create a traffic stream on their own, and on quality relevant content and over time you'll win. It would be really a bad thing for marketers if every site fell in line perfectly with page rank and links. That would be a real recipe for wealthy companies to easily buy ranking. |
