Yes it is useless as a correlation to SERP rankings for a keyword, but then was PR ever about SERP's, which are all about the most relevant sites for a search? I am not really sure what PR (as in the visible PR) was ever for.

Google is page rank 10 but it isn't the number one result for "furniture." Everything is taken into consideration. I think you can assume sites with high PR have relatively healthy backlinks but there are so many other factors to consider.

Was checking my stats and noticed a traffic spike...The term gets 18,100 A month exact in Google. Did not expect a big jump from 1 place but I will take it.

Pages are ranked based on the Google engine's perceived relevance. Sometimes a low pr page will outrank a high pr site if the low pr page has more relevant backlinks. What PR does is: a) Help you provide juice to other web sites. A backlink from a high pr site is a lot more valuable than one from a low pr site. This is mostly useful for gray/black hatters. b) give you an idea of how valuable google considers your web site in relation to others. Doesn't mean you'll automatically get to be 1st for every search result, even if it is related to your niche, but it does mean that if "The American Association of America" wanted to put in a decent effort in outranking you (IE: grab some relevant backlinks), they could do it easily. So while PR shouldn't be a primary concern when trying to rank for a keyword, it's far from useless.

A decent PR will also lower your minimum bid in AdWords for ads going to that particular domain, interestingly enough. Good PR is a factor for getting good QR.

Suggesting that PR means nothing confuses me, as woudlnt this contradict the purpose of seeking out high PR sites to link from?

Don't confuse toolbar PR with overall PR. The two are not always the same. |

I honestly can not figure out why I am ranking so high. Still number one with PR 0. I have 407 links for my domain and below me has almost 10k and pr 7. My domain is my KW however and from the testing I did on the caffeine update domain name holds more weight. This could be a factor. I think they (Matt Cuts) stated they were going to wait for the holidays but who knows... Checking PR and BL with the firefox seo plugin. Actually I just noticed their title is messed up so that explains it. |

What's the point of backlinking then if the PR doesn't matter that much?

Backlinking is what gets you the ranking in the SERPS for the keywords you are working on. Most people backlink to get rankings and traffic, not to get a higher pagerank. They usually work together in the long run though.

That title tag is so important and still so often overlooked. All things equal PR does matter. PR is the very basis of Google's algo, so it must be worth something. But there are hundreds of variables that determin your serps; PR is one of many variables.Any way, looks like you're doing a great job!

I don't think PR has much to do with SERP's at all. I'm ranking #1 for a bunch of keywords out of millions of other sites and many of them are really high page ranked and I'm only a PR1. Now on the flip side I only get links from really high PR sites so it's funny how that works. Maybe on the next update I'll get a higher PR from my efforts.

Yea I agree PR is not something we should be looking at when ranking for keywords..its backlinks and on page SEO for sure that will win over the big guys...for instance the marketer I have been backlinking to for over a year now just beat out IBM.com and Entrepreneur.com who are PR 8 and PR 7..and IBM has been online for over 20 years!..and my buddy hasnt even been online a year yet...and has a PR of 3..get this though..he was a PR 4 with the last update and just recently right before he took over the #1 spot he dropped to a PR 3..and then got the #1 spot?....umm..doesnt make much sense does it...but its because I have consistently kept building backlinks everyday..and high PR backlinks..so the only thing high PR is good for is for getting backlinks from! LOL

To say it as simple as possible, hell yes for SERP and keyword rankings absolutely.
