Default Should you push your keyword to No.1 spot in google first or rank other keywords once hit top page?

Dear all,

Need some advice on this. Understand that pushing keywords to No.1 spot does have the advantages but will it be better if once your keywords hit top pages of google [regardless of ranking of 1-10] you will start finding keywords and rank again till it's hit top 10.

It's seem that ranking top page of google is much faster compare to getting No.1 spot in google. Unless if we wish to push our limit to understand how to get no.1 spot in google..

Any advices or suggestion on this will great! Thanks!

I think it depends on the sites above you. If they deliver what the searcher is looking for, you need to be above them. If not, seems like they'd bounce until they got to you.

(Assuming your solution is what they are looking for, or your copy can sell it to them.)

Sometimes a lower position can be good, especially if the higher ones are junk, it can add a certain sense of desperation to the searcher's mindset and make them more willing to 'settle' for whatever you are offering?

wise words here.

it's not always worth the effort to bump something if they aren't in direct competition with you or are absolute crap. A new york times article or wikipedia entry for the dieting aren't in direct competition with your site selling dieting books and aids. People don't want to read about it, they want to buy the book that promises quick results in 2 days.

you should be trying to rank higher, rank for more keywords and backlink multiple pages all at the same time. It's a symbiotic relationship.

In my situation, I have an XFactor site that is ranking about mid page for the main keyword, 2 of the other keywords are ranking at 11, 15 and 26. The 4th term is somewhere like 68 and 5th is 160ish. What I am doing now is using profile backlinks to promote the main keyword and also one of the other keywords that are on the 2nd and 3rd page. Some peope may disagree but I know that these terms are money makers so it will be worthwhile promoting them since the main keyword is all by itself on the first page. It will certainly help my income too.

So, in my opinion, once you hit the first page and have other pages that are ranked close by, try and see if you can get them on the 1st page too since the main keyword is probably already earning you money!

Guys,

Thanks for your help on this. It's seem to me that having tons of top pages ranking in google is better than focusing on keyword till it hit No.1...perhaps i will go into this method since it's much better than getting tons of links to hit No.1. As long as it's stay within the top page of google. Should be okay.

Thank guys for the advices!

Hi Spark,

I would ranks as many pages as you can on page 1 first. I remember starting out trying to get my primary keyword first and wasted a lot of time trying to get that #1 spot. 5 years later I am still rank 2 for it. D: I would go as far as trying to rank in the top5 is good.

If you are just starting out, try and go after some less competitive words first so you can get some quick sales.

Best of luck.

I always find that your main keywords will always rank quicker if your rank your more long tail keywords first.

completely agree with you and do the same thing myself.

I'm not satisfied with a single keyword or a single site ranking for a keyword. I want to own as many keywords and spots as I can.

I usually do keyword research first, then select and organize those keywords into categories and long tail keywords. Some more competitive long tail keywords will be on my site, while those low hanging fruit will be on web 2.0 properties all over the net.

When I build backlinks, I do it at once to all articles, both web 2.0 sites and my main site! I don't wait for pages to rank, just keep building links until they all rank on page 1 #1.

Sometime I'll stop at certain traffic level, depending on project. This way I can get traffic and sales in the shortest time possible...

@kkchoon

Just curious, as you mention create all articles, web 2.0 site, backlink building all at once. Did you also make RSS Feed and submit them together as well? By doing this will raise flag to google?
