Default No more good EMDs left

With everyone now using exact match domains to rank fast for all of the latest ebooks and courses that have come out they are becoming scarce. How much harder is it to rank without the EMD (with another letter on the end)? With EMDs it usually takes 5-10 links to come on the front page for me, would it be safe to say that non-EMD need 50-100 links to come on the front page for a long tail keyword?

Exact match domains are great if you can get them, but you also need to consider what you put on your page and the links you're building back to them.

I'm able to get to page one on Google in just a week with non-EMD's with very minimal link building because I make sure to have keyphrase-rich content on the page, use the keyphrase in my internal link structure, and get a few good backlinks with the right anchor text.

You can outrank exact match domains if you take the time to set the site up right and do some strategic linking. The thing is that everyone with the EMD only mindset only wants them so they can put junk content up and not have to build links. If you do the exact opposite of this you're going to start building an asset and not just a quick money generator.

Considering how many TLDs there are, you're not running out of exact match domains anytime soon. You just need to get a bit more creative than thinking there's only .com, .net or .org

Whilst it's true that they will rank better for local markets, they will not receive a penalty either which means some decent SEO will get them ranking in non-country specific searches.

It's also worth noting that the vast majority of exact matches won't actually have a developed site on them. They'll be in the holdings of some domainer or other who intends to bleed you, because they're well aware that you should be able to make some decent money out of these domains.

Early birds and all that.
