Hi i want to add some duplicate content articles to my site, if i add noindex to the content could i still be slapped with duplicated content penalty.

If this is not your bread and butter for your content, I wouldn't worry about it. You will not get "penalized". HOWEVER, that being said, you will not out-rank the original content. The web lives on duplicate content, to an extent. People get all worked up about it. But, every news outlet in the world dupes the AP. I think this is commonly misunderstood. The problem is it becomes a pattern for your site. E.g., you are just importing RSS feeds of other sites. Don't have that kind of pattern.
