Default 2,000 inbound links to beat

im jumping into a niche and the top websites in my niche have about 2000 inbound l;inks pointing to their site.
Would you consider 2000 backlinks doable?

and secondly

how many backlinks is too many per day for a new site?
I'd hate to get the google slap.... 100 per day too much? 50? 25?

I wish I had it so easy. Try competition with millions of backlinks.

Seriously, a lot depends upon the quality of their links. 1 good link from an authoritative site can equal many hundreds (if not more) of low quality links.

As for how many per day, you will get as many different answers as there are people.
In my experience starting off slow and building in frequency is best. But if doing them by hand I doubt you will generate enough to get slapped by Google.

Many ads and items that go viral can generate many hundreds or thousands of backlinks in a short time and I have never seen any serious repercussions from it as long as it is all white hat.

I have about 16 backlinks for a new site and Google has sidelined, but then being a new site its probably the old google dance.

How long has your site been up and how many links do you currently have? Another thing to mention is that there is no way for you to know exactly or roughly how many links your competitor has as Google, Yahoo and Bing will only show a small portion of links for any given website. When checking my site it only shows around 360 links when I've built in the 1000's.

Anyhow if your site has some age to it and some links already, don't be afraid to build around 50 links a day. Not all of them will be indexed right away anyway. After a month you can increase that number to 100 per day and you should be killing that competitor as long as you're targeting high authority sites.

all pretty good advice here..and yea you can build quite a few backlinks a day without getting in trouble..I have built hundreds per day and been fine..dont do it on a regular basis but just a few times..just try to make it look natural and you will get there...good luck!

If you think ranking is about how many links you can acquire you have a very long boring and frustrating path ahead of you.

2,000 backlinks is not competition. Within a month you should be feasting on the 1st page.

If those 2,000 backlinks are quality links from authority sites, just reverse engineer them and add your own backlinks.

How many of them are from unique IP addresses and what's the PR on all of them?

That's usually how I determine whether something's beatable in a respectable timeframe or not.

I pretty much just do however many a day I can get. Google's just going to take their sweet time discovering them anyway!

Some gurus says we can build upto 20 backlinks daily. Google won't penalize for that.

Google or any other search engines not only emphasis on links. They do consider other major factors. You might have heard about authority website. Even Google backs up this term.

TO get into competition with your competitor you not only quality backlinks but also good keywords, social bookmarking and huge traffic.

This will take time but you can beat your competitor. What you need is consistent efforts.

I have no idea what an SEO guru is or who would have the vanity to call themselves that, but I would like to see the posts where the "guru" said such utter nonsense :-)
