Default PPC Gurus I Need A Simple Question Answered Can U Help?

I know pausing a content network campaign is a no no, it resets everything.

Can I use the integrated scheduling to not run my ads at night without losing all of my placement data?

Anyone know for sure.

I'd ask Google but I don't want to wait 2 weeks.

Thanks

Pausing a campaign or group does not reset anything. It's paused. It affects nothing and changes nothing. Same goes for the scheduling.

Are you sure about that? I tend to believe Perry Marshall when it comes to Adwords... Well it's on his site anyway but Glen Livingston is something of a content network guru.

Untold Secrets of Google's Content Network

Quick and dirty summary:
  • Pausing content campaigns is a big no-no. Find out why, and what to do instead
  • Split testing on the content network is much different than it is on Google. Knowing the right way will not only get you better ads, but exposure in more places
  • The content network isn't "mechanical", it's more like an ecosystem. Discover how to nurture it.
There is a link to a good interview, I need to listen again as he apparently answers my question. I was trying to do 2 things at once...

I found my answer, scheduling is OK, pausing is not.

I'm sure.

Why would pausing be a no-no? And why the content network specifically?

According to my reading it is because the content network does not really rely on 'keywords' it relies on themes and relative ad placements. Google is always trying to find better placements for your ads, more specifically image ads because they have to work out available advertiser slots for your image sizes, themes, etc. When you pause a campaign they have no idea when you are coming back so they fill those slots with other advertisers. Wasted space to them is wasted money so you lose your slots.

Google continually refines your placements (unless you specify them manually) because it's in their best interest to get you as many clicks as possible because that's how they get paid.

When you 'schedule a pause' they know exactly when you are coming back and hold your spots.

I have since found this information in many reputable places.

Anyway, I have found enough that I won't pause my campaigns.

The content network is a vasty misunderstood and underutilized medium IMO.
