What is "Florida Update" in case of Google?

Hi jiadany,

When Google makes a major update to their ranking algorithm it can effect a lot of websites. It became customary to name updates similar to the way hurricanes are named. The "Florida Update" was the name chosen for a major update that rolled out back in November of 2003.

Since it fundamentally changed the way Google ranks sites and effected so many websites it is often referred to by folks in the SEO business as a point in time that changed the industry.

Google no longer does major updates that disrupt so many sites all at once. They now use a model of continuous gradual changes that do not effect every site all at once.
