To the Warriors who gave me so much support and encouragement-

Guess what? Google " quarter horses for sale "......We're on Page 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent several months remaking the website on KompZer [a FREE wysiwyg editor] & updated it with our 2009 foals in mid-Dec. Due to my mistakes, it had been languishing somewhere beyond Google # 400 at that time.

Last week I spent hours setting up pages on Facebook & MySpace and managed to figure out how to insert a link on them.

My husband checked Google 12-24-09 [ Christmas Eve } and nearly fell out of his chair! Google quarter horses for sale # 3!!! We hugged, we high fived, we jumped up and down, we checked it again to be sure, we hugged & danced some more!

Somehow, I finally did something right and all of your contributions on my behalf are kicking in BIG TIME!! I know I have so much more to learn & tons of work to do and this rank may not last but... YAAAAAY! Our combined efforts have succeeded!!!

We are still sruggling to maintain these horses...we managed to give a few away to good homes...made a few sales...and we are still HERE! Hopefully, this new page rank will jump-start sales and help us to do justice for these wonderful horses.

I just wanted to share the good news and tell you again how very grateful I am for your generosity and support!

Don't stop now. Not to rain on your parade, but Google rankings include some favoritism towards recency. What that means is that new content and links can temporarily give a page a huge boost in the rankings. After a while, unless you keep the momentum, your rankings slide back to where they were before.

The solution? Add a blog to your site and post frequently. Network with others in your industry and try to get some link exchanges. Do a press release any time anything of any importance happens within your business.

Keep creating content and building links and over time you'll need to do less and less to maintain the rankings you want.

However, I'm sorry to burst your bubble. I did a quick check for your website on Google using the search phrase "quarter horses for sale" and did not find you website anywhere in the top 50 SERP results.

Google is now applying personalized search to all users even if you are not logged in. They place a cookie on you computer and return personalized search results based upon your previous search history. That means if you clicked on you own search listing in the past they will display your page prominently in your personalized search results. Unfortunately, the rest of the world is not seeing the same search result.

Thanks for the well wishes and constructive advice. I can't understand why my site is showing page #1 rank in some areas but not others! This stuff just gets ever more complicated, doesn't it? I'm still just learning the basics and expect I'll be forever far behind the technology. DRAT!

I'll keep on trying though...
