I've heard mixed reviews about submitting an article to multiple directories without spinning them. I wanted to know what the overall consensus here was and whether spinning is worth the effort. Please explain your stance. Thoughts? |

Kevin, My experience, and after listening to more experienced marketers than I, is that duplicate content only comes into effect if you publish the same content on your own website. You can safely publish the exact same article on hundreds of other sites without any risk of penalty whatsoever. I have a serach term I chased after and my exact same article occupies 6 of the first ten spots. (It used to be more) AND google uses the exact same snippet of the article in the search results. The reason I tell you this is because some on here have said that google will pick the article that is on the most relevant site and publish that site in the search results while leaving the rest but this clearly is not the case here. The people saying that dup content exists will be the ones with an affiliate link to an article spinner in their sig file. Please do your due diligence on the subject and do not take the word of one individual please. |

I recently tried to see what google will index with an identical article that was submitted to different directories. What I found is that if I search for the title in google it comes up 9 times on the first pages (two of these are on other websites that have linked back to my article). When I search for just the first part of the title, it's still indexed 7 times and I'm still on #1 from ezine. Now I won't duplicate this article on my site, but I found that my articles are still coming up in general search with google. I've also had mixed feedback on what to do, so I put it to the test. But I'm planning to do some more research about this. The actual funny thing about this is that the article is about article marketing :-D |

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't taking the word of one individual, hence the mixed reviews. I just wanted to hear what other Warriors had to say about the subject to expand my knowledge.

I have talked to some people who have used article spinners in the past and they say it is not worth it.You basically have to write the article yourself and then submit it and wait for it to be approved. You might as well write it yourself or hire someone to write it for you. And if you are creating a site you always want unique content not found elsewhere online as Google loves unique content. I have heard of people adding duplicate content on there site after it has been indexed and they have lost there rankings in the search engines. So I pretty sure it's much safer to just add it yourself or hire a writer. |

There have been a lot of controversy surrounding duplicate content lately. Go to Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Duplicate content due to scrapers and see for yourself. This is from the big G.

Guess it depends on what your e doing with the dupe content ... trying to rank it or trying to get backlinks from it. Whats yer experience with the "supplemental index" - from a backlinks perspective. If you sling enuff dupe content - and trust me i have :-) you will get it in the index - but it goes to never never land in the Supp Index ... so we need to sort out why the dupe content is {in existence|being posted} for in the 1st place. Spin sytnax used for comedical effect - note no spin software in my sig - LOL. Quote:

From Google: "To conclude, I'd like to point out that in the majority of cases, having duplicate content does not have negative effects on your site's presence in the Google index. It simply gets filtered out." From johnben1444 posted link, thanks... |
