What backlink checker works for you. I am trying to find out which is the better ones out there. Make to make sure my work is working.

I used to use yahoo site explorer. But more towards SEO moz link tools now.

I use a mix of SEO tools and Yahoo. However, the only search engine reporting nowadays is Yahoo- and they'll only show up to 1000 in bound links to a site!

If I want a quick overview, I'll use Backlink Watch or Yahoo Site Explorer. If I want a detailed overview I'll use the free version of SEO Spyglass:-

I have never had a problem with it and use it all the time but you can try this as well:

Just understand that there is no system that can pull all your backlinks.. Inlcuding yahoo... The only one that knows all your backlinks and how many you have is you but then again others may be bookmarking or sharing your site in places you have no idea that even exist.

Personally I would not waste my time looking for backlinks.. I would rather spend that time building more backlinks...

I've never experienced problems with backlinkwatch.com, is the best one for checking backlinks. Another alternative is using site:yourdomain.com on google.

I love the free version of Spyglass. I can hone in with laser precision on what my competitor did to get where they are on a keyword and outrank them with less time and less work enabling me to work on more keywords and sites at a time. I love backlinkwatch, its the best tool for the job. It shows whether a link is dofollow or nofollow, the anchor text, and a variety of other useful info.

And yes, it used to be borked for a while but now it's working real good.

None of the tools can display more than 1000 backlinks unless they keep a database for themselves. AFAIK all the tools mentioned so far are based in some way on Yahoo Site Explorer which shows only 1000 backlinks.

I heard that SEO Spyglass can displays up to 50,000 backlinks in a time. I guess that it is with paid version.

I am using backlink watch but I think this and many others are not very accurate. So you should take these backlink checkers, including Yahoo with a grain of salt. Use it as a guide but I won't obsess with it.

I think for most niche's yahoo site explorer is probably good enough. For the hyper competitive ones, then you'll need to pay for the SEO Moz upgrade.

I will say that I find all the available tools to be lacking in one way or another.

Link diagnosis is the best way to get the complete view about about back linking. For this you will have to submit URL and some time later it will give you complete result.
It will give total number of back links, unique anchor texts, provide links with their respective page rank.

SEO Spyglass compiles backlinks from like 8 billion databases and then you can get pretty much any data you want on them. In addition, it has a nifty cut and paste inport feature so I can cut and paste any groups of links I want checked (e.g., import profile links to check for nofollow).
